Each time I hear someone using the simple "no-one-is-an-island" metaphor to tell a person that he or she cannot exist alone, my immediate instinct has been to add, "even an island cannot exist alone." It needs to be surrounded by water before it can call itself an island. In our journeys in life, we need each other. We all stumble. Every one of us. This is Nature's way of advising us to "go hand in hand" supporting one another.
